First day at Lawton Elementary School.

This is....a memory drawing, i guess.... It was my first day of school at my new school Lawton. I was 7 and we'd just moved to that neighborhood.

During recess, since I had no one to play with...I climbed to the top of this tall thingy made of old tires.

And I was stuck.

Terrified, I sat clinging, watching everyone play below. I couldn't figure out how you were supposed to get down.

Soon, the teachers blew their whistles to signal the end of recess. I felt ready to cry....I couldn't get down, and if I couldn't get down I'd get in trouble for not coming back to class....

I was too shy and ashamed to ask for help.

Finally, I swallowed my fear and cautiously slipped down the first tire. My stomach flipped with the slight drop....and then another tire...and finally the last one. I don't remember if I got back to the classroom late or not....but it was a while before I was comfortable climbing that thing again.

freelance monstering: The "Why-Isn't-Your-Room-Clean?!!!" Monster

Christi thinks this monster is a freelance monster, hired by parents to come and terrorize their children into cleaning. I wonder what it's like to be a freelance monster.

BASTIAN! CALL MY NAME!

Last night, Tricia, Christi, and I went to the Sunshine Theater to see Neverending Story. It was awesome to see it again. I love that movie, no matter its flaws. I still think it's a pretty good movie, for what it is anyway.

Did you know that the actor who did the voices of Falkor and Gmork was also Skeletor?I just found that out.
In fact... I looked up the movie on IMDB and other sites to find out more information about the actors.

Bastian- Barret Oliver. He was in several things as a kid, including Cocoon and Knight Rider. He's now a photographer with a specialty in 19th Century Wet-Plate process.

"But it's only a story! They can't be talking about me!?"

Atreyu- Noah Hathaway. He was in a bunch of stuff as a kid, including a movie called Troll, which Christi says is awful. He plays a boy named Harry Potter Jr. The bio says he worked as a bartender for years, got lots of tatoos and studied martial arts, inlcuding muay thai. And now he teaches martial arts. Supposedly he's married to a woman but the photos I found seem suggestive of something else. Very wierd.

The Childlike Empress(renamed Moonchild by Bastian, of course)- Tami Stronach. This was her one and only movie, but she also came out with a single around then. There are 2 songs, Fairy Queen and Riding on a Rainbow.

She's now a dancer and choreographer. According to one website she is/was teaching yoga at New York Sports Club. She has a website...i guess if we really wanted to we could go see her dance.

Hat lady

I'm posting the photo I used for my drawing because I think Bonnie would like them.

Happy Birthday Nelson

Wednesday was Nelson's birthday so I painted this picture for him. Yes, it's very very silly and girly....but seriously, would drawing a "manly" picture be any less cheesy?

I screwed up a little painting this, but it was nothing that a little Photoshop can't fix for your viewing pleasure. Nelson however is stuck with the mistakes.

Happy Birthday Nelson! I love you.

The evolution of a cowgirl

My mom asked me to do a second version of the cowboy postcard for the QFD Institute, but this time with a girl. They're in order from top to bottom, the top was the final card.
My mom didn't like the original hat because she said it looked like Donkey Ears.

I happen to like the hat very much, but it's her card. So, using the convienient magic of photoshop, I have the hat a different brim.

It's just as well that her body gets cut off in the end, because it's a little wierd, and the arm on the right is just awful. I suck at foreshortening.

Late night doodle

I found this really cool photo of a woman in a feathered hat. It was such a cool picture that I had to sketch it before I went to sleep. I'm sorry, Bonnie, for stealing your hat thing. I didn't mean to, honest.

Doodles

I went on a scanning spree Sat. night after I scanned the burlesque sketches.
Here are of them. They're just recent doodles from my sketchbook.

More Dr. Sketchy Burlesque drawing

We went to Brooklyn again for burlesque sketching. Today the model was a roller derby girl. It was fun, but roller skates are hard to draw.
However, drinking hot cocoa with Kahlua comforted me as I struggled drawing.

No, she doesn't have gigantic wierd areolas with no nipples on her breasts... she has pasties!

No drawings today

I've been spending the last week or so trying to come up with something interesting for this project. I'm designing some motion graphics titles for my dad.
Since almost everything I've done before was for kids, it was hard to come up with ideas. Plus, I've always worked under an art director when doing motion graphics.
It's a lot easier when someone else tells you what to do.

Anyway..the 2 above are the one's I've developed the furthest and even animated a litte.
The 2 below are the most finished looking of my 6 or so different concepts.

I'm not really crazy about any of these designs.

yeah..so what if I drew this a while ago?

Lazy me and the sea

I'm lazy and even a bit busy. So here's an old picture. Christi thinks I should make a film using it.
I have no ideas, however.

Down with Love 2

A silly sketch of the beatnik chick in the movie.
"Ask me why I mourn."

Ewan: "Why do you mourn baby?"

"Because you are shrouded in the suit and tie Madison Avenue will bury you in ALIVE."

Ewan: "Well if it makes you feel better, you can help me out of it."

Down With Love

Christi and I watched "Down with Love" again the other night. I love that movie. It's cheesy and silly and has outrageous costumes. Truly, truly outrageous.

I actually did contemplate whether to do a Down with Love drawing, or Jem and the Holograms drawing. Down with Love won, because it's just better.
Jem is so badly drawn and ridiculous that I don't know what more I could do with her. Did you know there are grown up people in the world who have Jem conventions? They get dressed up and SING THE SONGS!
I think it's been over 15 years since it was on tv. Have they been in mourning this long? Do they really think they look good in all that glitter and gold?

Ok... no more of that. I drew a picture for Down with Love, and upholstered the arrows for fun. I wasn't trying to make a caricature of Renee Zellweger. I just wanted to draw the outfits.

Cinderelly Cinderelly

This is kinda old...I started these two illustrations a month ago. I stopped on the one above because my Photoshop is tempermental and plopped a big striped square in the Fairy Godmother's dress.
It always seems to do that when I put a layer on multiply. Anyone know WHY photoshop 7 does that? maybe it's just mine.

The picture below is on hold because I'm having trouble deciding on a color scheme.

Burlesque Sketches

So I've finally scanned in my drawings from Saturday. We went to the Lucky Cat Lounge in Brooklyn for Burlesque Sketching. It was awesome and a lot of fun. I think I like sketching with a worn out marker.
It covers up a little the fact that I'm not sure how to draw the pose.

The last drawing was for a contest. We had to draw the guy posing with the model as Wonderwoman.

No lines

I think i like her better this way.

Puffed Sleeves....AGAIN!

Don't you just love puffed sleeves? I should do a series, puffs through the ages: The rise and fall of the fashion poof and man's desire to look absurd.
Anyway....I'm having trouble with this picture. I don't know what to do with it now. I'm not even sure I like all the textures and colors.

Sometimes textures make things look really interesting and cool, but I think in this case it's gone overboard. She looks like the Queen of upholsery.

Please help me.

Anne's puffed sleeves

This is for you, Alisa, since you brought it up.lol =P

masked lady

I'm not sure yet if I like this enough to clean up in Illustrator or Flash. We'll see.
